Everybody plans the install. Almost nobody plans January
Holiday lighting conversations happen in October and November and stop at the install date. That is the fun half. Then it is January, and something has to happen. The people who asked the question up front are the ones not on a ladder in the cold.Which is a shame, because it is the half that separates one company from another. Anybody can put a display up. The real question is what happens after. That question belongs in the first conversation, not after the season ends.
What a January ladder day actually looks like
The takedown is worse. Cold, dark by five, and nothing to look forward to. Whatever goes into that box is in worse shape next season.
Takedown as part of the job
On a properly structured holiday lighting service, takedown is not an add on. When the season ends, a crew comes back and removes everything. Everything gets catalogued and stored off site, instead of living in your attic. You never handle any of it.
The case for off site storage
Off site storage solves three problems at once. Your attic stays empty, which is worth something in most houses. The lights stay in the condition they were in, since attic heat and crushing are what kills them. Labeling is why year two looks like year one.
The other route
The other option removes the takedown conversation entirely. Permanent lighting does not have a takedown. It is a different purchase with different math, and it does not suit every household. But if the takedown conversation is the part you dread, it is worth asking about once.
What happens if something goes dark on the twentieth
A display is up for weeks, and things mounted outside in December occasionally stop working. The question is who you call. Service during the season belongs on the quote, and the quote should say which. Ask before you book, not on the twenty second of
https://evercrestlighting.com/ December.
The second year
Year one is the effort. Once a display is designed and stored, repeating it is administrative. Next season comes down to picking a day. Changes build on the existing plan, instead of a blank page.
What to settle in writing
Ask whether takedown is included or billed separately. Ask who owns the materials, because that decides where they end up. Ask roughly when in January the crew comes. EverCrest Lighting handles takedown and off season storage on holiday lighting, and installs permanent lighting for people who would rather stop repeating it, for homes and businesses across Upstate South Carolina and Western North Carolina, from Greenville.
